Ikebana is, in principle, the art of arranging natural flowers, twigs, branches into a composition that highlights their beauty. This ancient form of art affords inner peace to those who practice it, in addition to purifying the environment and creating an atmosphere of peace, harmony, and beauty.
Ikebana is a simple form of art that anybody can learn, for it doesn´t depend on talent, financial status, and technical complexity. The Ikebana technique makes it possible to use flower arrangements to beautify anywhere there are people.
Among great number of Ikebana styles, the Sangetsu style was conceived by Mokichi Okada in the 1940s, promoting simplicity, respect for nature, and the expression of sincere feelings rough floral vivification. Ikebana Sangetsu emphasizes the natural beauty of flowers in their purest form, as it naturally fosters and elevates the esthetic sensitiveness of those who practice or appreciate this art form.
Indeed, flowers do seem to have awareness. I also never force any of the materials to assume a particular shape, but simply arrange them in their own natural forms as much as I can so they remain fresh and full of life for a long time.
Mokiti Okada
The Ikebana Sangetsu Academy was founded by Itsuki Okada, Mokichi Okada´s daughter, in 1972. The Academy is well-established in all continents and lately it has trained thousands of people from many countries.

Expositions
The exhibitions held to display Ikebana created by students are free of charge and open to the general public. Their purpose is to allow visitors to contemplate the beauty of the arrangements and to promote spiritual and mental well-being.
